Captain Adam Lowry scored with 26 seconds remaining in overtime to extend the Swift Current Broncos’ winning streak to seven games with a 5-4 overtime win over the visiting Regina Pats.

Lowry converted a cross-crease pass from Jay Merkley on the powerplay for his 32nd goal of the season to end a thrilling back and forth contest. Merkley simply waited at the side of the net as he out-waited the Pats as Lowry moved into open ice for the game winning goal.

The Broncos forced overtime when Colby Cave scored with the goaltender pulled and 1:04 left on the clock to tie the game 4-4.

Regina had taken a 4-3 lead when they got third-period goals from Chandler Stephenson and Trent Ouellette 14 seconds apart midway through the final period.

Ryon Moser, Chance Lund, and Brycen Martin, with his first career goal, also scored for Swift Current.

Morgan Klimchuk and Braden Christoffer added goals in Regina’s sixth consecutive loss.

Eetu Laurikainen evened his record at 15-15-2-2 for Swift Current with 20 saves on 24 shots. Matt Hewitt suffered the overtime loss with 25 saves to move his record to 11-19-2-2.

The Broncos scored twice on five powerplay opportunities. They limited Regina to one powerplay goal on nine man-advantages, including a crucial kill on a delay of game penalty that carried 1:49 into overtime.

The Broncos improved to 24-20-3-2 with their season-high seventh straight win. Regina dropped to 18-26-3-2 as the Broncos moved to 4-0-1-0 in the season series.

The Broncos will be back at home Saturday to host the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Broncos are 2-0-1 against the Warriors this season, including a 4-3 shootout win on Jan. 15 in their most recent meeting.

Bronco Bits: Coda Gordon missed the first game of a two-game suspension he received for a boarding major taken against the Pats on Dec. 19. It was only the Broncos second suspension this season.
