Bronco goaltender Eetu Laurikainen turned aside 30 of 31 shots to backstop Swift Current to a 2-1 road win over the host Regina Pats on Saturday night.
With the Broncos outshot by a 31-23 margin, Laurikainen played well in winning his 17th game of the season. The import goaltender is now 17-15-2-2 on the year, with a 2.50 goals against average and a .918 save percentage.
Colby Cave counted the eventual game winner for the Broncos when he scored his 13th goal of the season at the 4:07 mark of the second period. Cave has now scored two game winning goals in the past three games, and all three of his game winners this season have been scored since the Christmas break.
Regina opened the scoring 7:11 into the game when Morgan Klimchuk scored his team leading 24th goal of the year.
The Broncos tied the game at 1-1 at the 13:32 mark of the opening frame when Graham Black scored his 19th of the season.
Both teams were zero for five on the powerplay in a game that produced 57 minutes in penalties. Regina's Dyson Stevenson, who hails from Shaunavon, had a first period fight with Chance Lund and a second period scrap with Dillon Heatherington.
The Broncos are now 23-20-3-2 and remain fifth in the Eastern Conference Standings thanks to going 7-3 in their first 10 games after the Christmas break. Regina has now dropped five straight as they fall to 18-26-2-2 and sit 10th in the Eastern Conference.
Swift Current has a five-day break before their next action, when they begin a three game homestand with weekend games against visiting Regina (Jan. 25) and Moose Jaw (Jan 26).
