The Swift Current Broncos’ struggles against U.S. Division teams continued Friday in a blowout loss to the visiting Spokane Chiefs.

The Chiefs opened their East Division road trip on a strong note with a 7-2 win over the host Broncos as the Broncos finished 1-4-0-0 against U.S. Division teams this season.

Todd Fiddler and Reid Gow each scored twice for Spokane as they improved to 18-7-1-0 this season. Mike Aviani, Tyler King, and Mitch Holmberg all added goals in the win.

Overage forward Chance Lund scored both goals for the Broncos, one while shorthanded, his ninth and 10th goals of the season.

Eric Williams made 27 saves on 29 shots to improve 14-5-1-0 for the Chiefs, who will play six games against the East Division over nine days on their road trip.

Import Eetu Laurikainen allowed three goals on 10 shots before getting the hook after 23:40 for the Broncos. Rookie Landon Bow relieved him and allowed four goals on 25 shots over 34:20.

Spokane scored once on six powerplay opportunities, while Swift Current failed to capitalize on two man-advantages and gave up a shorthanded goal to Fiddler in the first period to fall behind 2-0.

Swift Current fell to 11-13-3-2 as their two-game winning streak came to an end and their home record dipped to 6-7-2-1 this season

The Broncos will be back at home Saturday for their fourth game in five days and third against Brandon over that stretch when the Brandon Wheat Kings (10-15-2-1) visit the iplex at 7 p.m.
