Broncos end three game skid against visiting Wheat Kings

Levi Bews scored twice to spark the Swift Current Broncos to a 5-3 win over the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings.

Bews is now tied for the Bronco team lead in scoring with 12 goals after opening the scoring 12:49 into the game on the powerplay and adding his 12th during a three goal middle period by the Broncos. Swift Current scored a trio of goals during a 5:08 span of the middle frame, with defenceman Reece Scarlett scoring his second of the year and Josh Derko collecting his third of the season to bookend Bews' second of the game.

In the third period the Broncos extended their lead to 5-1 when Ryon Moser tipped home his sixth of the year on the powerplay as Swift Current went two for two with the man advantage.

However, Brandon made a game of it by scoring a pair of goals 2:27 apart in the later stages of the third.

Brandon import forward Richard Nejezchleb scored twice for the Wheat Kings. He now has three goals on the year, and his second of the game came during a third period powerplay as Brandon ended up one for four with the manadvantage. Brandon's Alessio Bertaggia cut the Bronco lead to two when he counted his team leading 15th goal of the year with 4:45 left in regulation.

Swift Current rookie import goaltender Eetu Laurikainen improved to 10-11-2-2 after stopping 19 of 22 shots.

Wheat Kings netminder Corbin Boes falls to 8-10-1-0 after yielding five goals on 34 shots.

Swift Current ends a three game losing streak and improves to 10-12-3-2, two points ahead of Brandon who have now dropped three in a row and fall to 10-14-2-1.
