The Swift Current Broncos solved their recent offensive woes by making the most of their opportunities while skating to a 5-2 win over the host Kootenay Ice on Friday night.

Swift Current entered the game having scored only five times over their past five games.

The Broncos weathered an opening period where they were outshot by a 26-7 margin and actually led by a 3-1 count after the period thanks to goals from Levi Bews, Chance Lund and Reece Scarlett with his first of the season on the powerplay.

The teams traded goals in the middle period, with defenceman Dillon Heatherington credited with his second of the year and an unassisted marker.

Colby Cave rounded out the Broncos scoring in the third period, scoring 1:51 into the frame on the powerplay with his fourth on the year.

Kootenay replied with goals from Jon Martin and Levi Cable.

Broncos import goaltender Eetu Laurikainen stopped 39 of 41 shots to improve to 6-5-2-1. It was the third time in October the Broncos have allowed over 40 shots in a game.

Kootenay netminder Mackenzie Skapski yielded five goals on 25 shots while falling to 4-5-0-0.

Swift Current now sits in a four-way tie for fourth spot in the Eastern Conference standings with a 6-6-3-1 record. Kootenay have now dropped four straight and sit last in the Conference standings at 4-9-0-0.
