Brooks Maxwell scored his first of the season on the powerplay with 2:30 left in regulation to lift the Red Deer Rebels to a 3-2 win over the host Swift Current Broncos.
Red Deer has now won two in a row and improves to 4-5-0-1, while Swift Current suffers their first regulation loss of the season while falling to 3-1-3-1.
The Rebels also had goals from rookie defenceman Haydn Fleury with his first Western Hockey League goal and Matt Bellerive with his second of the season.
Swift Current replied with goals from rookie Tanner LeSann with his second of the year and Graham Black and his third of the season.
Rebels import netminder Patrik Bartosak improved to 3-4-0-0 after stopping 29 of 31 shots. Broncos import goalie Eetu Laurikainen is now 3-1-2-1 after yielding three goals on 32 shots.
