The Swift Current Broncos got 25 saves from Eetu Laurikainen and held on for a 2-1 win over the visiting Regina Pats Saturday.

The Broncos got goals from Chance Lund and Ryon Moser to go ahead 2-0 and held on for the win despite spending the majority of the third period in their own end. Moser stretched his point streak to seven games to open the season with four goals and five assists over that stretch.

Eetu Laurikainen improved to 3-0-2-1 as he allowed just a single goal from Trent Ouellette.  Teagan Sacher fell to 0-3-0-0 with 20 saves on 22 shots for Regina.

“I think we played a really good game,” said Laurikainen, a 19-year-old import from Finland. “We have solid D. This is a really important victory for us because we have lost tight games and now we have a victory, so it was really important.”

The Broncos improved to 3-0-3-1 with their second straight win, while Regina dropped to 3-5-0-0.

The Broncos were unable to score on two powerplay opportunities but held Regina scoreless on four man-advantages, including two crucial penalty kills in the third period.

“We played all 60 minutes like a team and I think we deserved to win,” said defenseman Richard Nedomlel. “We played hard, finished every check, played smart, and that’s the best way to win.”

The Broncos will be back at home Tuesday when they host the Red Deer Rebels (2-5-0-1).
