Three-goal leads are proving to be problematic for the Swift Current Broncos early this season. Three games into the season and the Broncos have led at least 3-0 in each game yet sit with a 1-0-2-0 record after squandering another early lead.

Josh Derko, Zac Mackay, and Justin Spagrud all scored in the first period as the Broncos outshot the visiting Regina Pats 23-7 over the opening 20 minutes before the Pats scored the final four goals and won 4-3 in overtime on Morgan Klimchuk’s second goal of the game.

Klimchuk, 17, scored 2:09 into overtime to complete the comeback win as Regina erased a 3-0 first period deficit for their first win of the season.

The Broncos allowed second-period goals to Lane Scheidl and Klimchuk to lead 3-2 after two periods and Trent Ouellette scored with 5:05 remaining to tie the game and force overtime.

Matt Hewitt made 38 saves to improve to 1-2-0-0 this season. Eetu Laurikainen stopped 20 of 24 shots to drop to 1-0-2-0 for Swift Current.

Regina moved their record to 1-2-0-0, while Swift Current dropped to 1-0-2-0.

The Broncos will be at home Friday to face the Brandon Wheat Kings and on Saturday when they host the Saskatoon Blades.
