Richard Nedomlel’s goal with only 30 seconds left in overtime completed a gritty team effort for the Swift Current Broncos in a 2-1 preseason win over the Moose Jaw Warriors in Maple Creek Friday.

The import defenseman jumped into the rush late in the four-on-four extra period and beat a defenseman before tucking the puck past Justin Paulic to end the tightly contested game.

No shots on goal were kept at the game but import Eetu Laurikainen earned the win during a quiet evening in the Broncos goal.

The two teams scored goals only nine seconds apart in the first period before scoring chances became scarce over the final two periods and into overtime.

Graham Black opened the scoring with a powerplay goal to put the Broncos ahead 1-0 at the 14:54 mark of the first period.

Josh Uhrich answered right back on the ensuing faceoff to finish the scoring in regulation for the two teams.

“It was an awesome game,” said Broncos’ rookie hopeful Dakota Odgers. “It was an awesome atmosphere and it was nice to get back to a small town setting. The fans were really loud, the building was awesome, and it was a really fun game to be a part of.”

Overage winger Chance Lund made his debut for the Broncos after being acquired from the Seattle Thunderbirds.

“Yeah it was a rough and tough game,” said the 6’5’’, 223-lbs left wing. “It was a lot of hitting, a lot of pinching, and a lot of battling. It was good to pull out the win. It was a really good game. They fought hard and we fought even harder so it was good to come out on top.”

The Warriors and Broncos will meet for the third time this preseason on Sunday back in Moose Jaw.
