Swift Current Broncos defenseman Reece Scarlett signed an entry-level contract with the National Hockey League’s New Jersey Devils today.

Scarlett was drafted in the sixth round, 159th overall, by the Devils in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

The 6’1’’ 178-lb blueliner has totaled 16 goals, 67 assists, and 182 penalty minutes in 209 games with the Broncos. The Sherwood Park native is heading into his fourth full season with the Broncos after appearing in one game as a 15-year-old in 2008-09.

He was a first round pick in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft when the Broncos selected him 12th overall.

He doubled his points total last season with 49 points in 72 games, including 25 powerplay assists.

No terms were disclosed, as per club policy.
