After scoring the final six goals in an 8-2 win over Edmonton Saturday, Sunday’s game didn’t go nearly so well as the Broncos suffered a 5-1 loss to the Calgary Hitmen to conclude their weekend at the Oil Kings Sixth Annual Preseason Invitational in St. Albert.

Dillon Heatherington, with a powerplay marker, scored the lone goal for the Broncos with assists from Brycen Martin and Christian Magnus as the Broncos finished one-for-five with the man-advantage. They also killed off all four Hitmen powerplay opportunities.

Landon Bow suffered the loss with 16 saves on 21 shots.

Mack Shields earned the win for the Hitmen with 23 saves on 24 shots.

Ryley Bennefield scored twice for the Hitmen, while Austin Calladine, Brooks Macek, and Jaynen Rissling added singles. Brady Brassart added three assists for the Hitmen, who improved to 2-0 in the preseason.

The Broncos will continue their preseason schedule on Friday when they host the Moose Jaw Warriors in Maple Creek. They will be in Moose Jaw to face the Warriors for the third time in the preseason Sunday.

The Broncos will open the regular season on the road in Moose Jaw on September 21. They will host their home opener against the Warriors the next night back in Swift Current.
