The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires needed 40 saves from Luke Grassl and a late goal from Tim Vanstone to secure a 5-4 comeback win over the visiting Notre Dame Hounds on Tuesday.

The Legionnaires squandered a two-goal lead, allowing three second-period goals, but scored twice in the third period to move into fourth spot in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League with a 15-10-2-0 record.

Daylan Gatzke scored a powerplay goal 32 seconds into the third period to tie the game 4-4 and Vanstone netted his second of the game with 4:07 left to clinch the win and cap a four-point outing for the rookie forward.

Grassl stopped 40 of 44 shots, including 15 saves in the third period, to improve to 6-4-1 this season.

Matthew Audette had a goal and two assists for the Legionnaires, while Kadin Schmaltz also scored.

Carter Forsyth, Josh Wik, Lukas Biensch, Cody McKinnon, and Zac Mackay all added assists.

The Hounds dropped to 7-15-5-1 in ninth place in the SMAAAHL.

The Legionnaires will wrap up their 2011 schedule on home ice when they host the third-place Tisdale Trojans (16-8-1-1) on Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Credit Union iplex.
