Cody Eakin was handed the Captain's 'C' on the opening day of Swift Current Broncos training camp.
With Broncos training camp taking to the ice this afternoon after fitness testing on Wednesday, Eakin has been selected as team captain for the 2010-2011 season.
The fourth-year Bronco is coming off his best offensive season where he scored 47 goals and 91 points.
The 19-year-old Eakin takes over the reigns as the Broncos captain from Derek Claffey who served a two-year stint as the team's emotional leader.
"Cody demonstrates a tremendous work ethic on and off the ice," Broncos head coach and general manager Mark Lamb stated in a press release. “Cody has been a player that comes to work hard at all practices and games. He is a great role model, the Broncos are lucky to have a player and person of his character. We look for Cody along with a core group of veterans to lead this team. Over the course of training camp and the exhibition schedule, there will be the chance for others to prove their leadership and earn Assistant Captain roles.”
