The Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats out-scored the visiting Melville Prairie Fire 12-3 during a pair of weekend wins to move closer to locking up third-place in the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League.

Saturday the Wildcats scored four third period goals in a 5-1 win over the Prairie Fire.

Shelby Nisbet and Jenna Smith both netted a pair of goals, followed by a goal and an assist from Megan French, while Bailey Habscheid recorded three assists.

Desirae Kuhlmann, Chantel Hildebrand, and Kali Jamieson each chipped in a single assist. Goaltender Leanne Gerwing made 16 saves in the win.

Sunday the Wildcats got goals from six different skaters in a 7-2 win. Nisbet paced the offense with two goals and an assist, followed by a goal and an assist from Karrah Newkirk, Smith, Carley Bertram, and Habscheid. Defenseman Shelby LeBel also added a single marker.

Kelsey Mastel had two assists, followed by singles from Megan Jones, Tenille Gering, Delaine Feil, and French.

Gerwing made 25 saves to improve to 9-4-1 with a 2.09 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.

The Wildcats improved to 15-9-2-1 and can lock up third-place in their final regular season game on Wednesday in Prince Albert against the second-place Bears (18-6-1-0).

The Wildcats lead the fourth-place Weyburn Wings by five points, but Weyburn has three games remaining and can still reel in the Wildcats with three wins and a Wildcats’ loss.
