The Swift Current Kabos AA Bantam Raiders’ provincial run came to a sudden end Saturday with a 7-3 loss on home ice to Yorkton.
The Raiders led the second round total goal series 4-2 after a road win on Thursday but were unable to close the deal. Zac Mackay and Justin Spagrud each had a goal and an assist, while George Hudec added a pair of assists. Tyson Empey also scored in the loss.
In Thursday’s win the Raiders got a goal three assists from Chace Nelson and a goal and an assist from Spagrud. Brayden Karmazinuk and Jordan Wittman also scored for the Raiders.
Sunday the Raiders rebounded with four unanswered goals for a 6-2 win over the visiting Regina Hurricanes. The Raiders held a 37-8 advantage on the shot clock through the game’s opening 34 minutes but found themselves in a 2-2 tie before finding their scoring touch with three goals in exactly three minutes late in the middle frame.
Jordan Wittman had a pair of goals, including an outstanding solo effort while shorthanded, while Blake Fournier and Mackay both added a goal and an assist. Single goals went to Dalton Menke and Empey, while single assists came from Spagrud, Nelson, Reid Fritzke, and Tim Vanstone.
The win improves the Raiders to 15-3-1 as they remain second in the South Sask AA Bantam Hockey League.
The Raiders have a break from league action this weekend but Sask First Zone Camp will keep the second-year bantams busy this weekend.
Next weekend the Raiders will host the Moose Jaw Warriors and the Weyburn Wings with only five games remaining in their 24-game schedule.
