The Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour wrapped up another season in the province with the 2014 MJT – Golf Saskatchewan Order of Merit Championship at the Legends Golf Club in Warman over the weekend.
Five Southwest golfers battled cool and wet conditions at the tournament. Eastend’s Kirk Humphrey was the top finisher in third spot in the Juvenile Boys Division. He was tied for sixth after day one with a five-over 77 on Saturday. Humphrey, 16, shot an 83 on day two to climb the standings and finish 16 shots back of Saskatoon’s Roman Timmerman, who fired rounds of 75 and 79 for a two-shot win over Saskatoon’s Jordan Unger.
Swift Current’s Kyle Tisdale placed 15th in Juvenile Boys. He was tied for 20th with a day-one 86 and shaved two strokes for an 84 on day two to climb up five spots in the standings.
Shaunavon’s Corey Bailey, 17, posted the best round of the tournament with a 68 on Saturday to lead the Junior Boys Division. He was unable to hold onto a three-stroke lead though when he posted an 85 on Sunday to settle for sixth, six shots back of Madison’s Kyle Wiebe (73-74-147).
Swift Current’s Logan Tisdale placed 12th in Junior Boys. He was 12th after a day-one round of 79 and then shot an 89 on Sunday to remain in that same spot.
Swift Current’s Jackson Schneider, 13, was the only Southwest golfer in the Bantam Boys Division. He sat 11th after round one with a 91 to sit 17 shots back of the lead. He shot a 101 on day two to place 12th overall. Saskatoon’s Andrew Campbell won the tournament with rounds of 75 and 78 for a six-shot win.
