The fourth stop on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour Saskatchewan schedule was the MJT – Golf Saskatchewan OOM / Prodigy Series at Cooke Municipal Golf Course in Prince Albert on July 30-31. Five Swift Current golfers took part in the Bantam and Junior Boys age groups.
Griffin Wilson placed seventh overall in the Bantam Boys division. Wilson sat 12th after his first round when he carded a 92 to sit 17 shots back of Cochrane’s Scott Shugg. He slashed 14 shots off his round on day two with a 78 to finish 17 shots back of the leader.
Jackson Schneider placed 17th in Bantam Boys in Prince Albert. He was tied for 15th after an opening-round 97 and shot a 104 on day two.
Nikhil Pool placed 18th amongst Bantam Boys but made a great recovery during the tournament. He shot a 113 on day one and then improved by 16 strokes with a 97 on day two. Pool was rewarded with the Golf Town Comeback Award for his efforts.
Saskatoon’s Steven Duchscher won Bantam Boys with rounds of 80 and 73 for a three-shot win.
Blake Morrow and Austin Paulhus both competed in Junior Boys action in Prince Albert.
Morrow was tied for 17th after a day-one 87, 20 shots back of Regina’s Drew Kocur for the lead. He improved by five strokes on Thursday for an 82 to tie for 16th.
Paulhus was 19th after a day-one 88 and then finished 20th with a 92 on day two.
Kocur won the tournament after shooting a career low 67 on day one and then following up with a 72 on day two for a six-shot win over Meadow Lake’s Diehl Normand.
Next up on the MJT calendar is the MJT Ford Series at Wolf Creek Golf Resort in Ponoka, AB next weekend.
The final Saskatchewan event will be the MJT – Golf Saskatchewan Order of Merit Championship at the Legends Golf Club in Warman on August 23-24.
