Shaunavon’s Corey Bailey led from start to finish to win the 2014 Saskatchewan Junior Men’s Championships at the Evergreen Golf Course in Nipawin.
Bailey clinched a seven-shot victory with a one-under 71 on Wednesday to win the three-round tournament. Golfing out of the Rock Creek Golf Club, Bailey was a model of consistency with a 70 on day one and an even-par 72 on day two.
Saskatoon’s Roman Timmerman placed second at four-over and Prince Albert’s Cory Selander was third at eight-over. All three will now represent Saskatchewan at the Junior Boys National Championship.
Eastend’s Kirk Humphrey, golfing out of the Elmwood Golf and Country Club, tied for 18th at 22-over. He had a good start to the tournament with a 75 on day one and a 78 on day two before falling off the pace with an 85 on the final day.
Blake Morrow, golfing out of the Sask Landing Golf Resort, tied for 26th at Provincials. He saved his best round for last when he posted a three-over 75 on day three. Morrow had opened the event with rounds of 80 and 88.
Swift Current’s Austin Paulhus, from the Chinook Players Club, rounded out the Southwest quartet in 30th spot at 29-over par. He posted identical scores of 80 on days one and two and then carded an 85 on day three.
Prince Albert’s Kayla Sawchuk easily won the girls titles by 11 strokes (75-80-76-231) over Cooke Municipal Golf Course teammate Brooke Hobson. Regina’s Brooke Hill placed third and will join Sawchuk and Hobson in representing Saskatchewan at Junior Nationals.
Shaunavon’s Hannah MacNeil placed sixth (107-96-105-308) out of 10 female competitors at the Championships. Her best round was a 96 on day two.
