A pair of Eastend golfers won the SWAC grass green championships at home
A pair of hometown golfers came out on top of the SWAC grass green championships at the Streambank Golf Course in Eastend on September 16. 25 golfers from Southwest high schools golfed 18 holes in Eastend.
Shaila Humphrey won the girls SWAC championship on her home course by two strokes with a score of 99. Ponteix’s Ashley Fournier finished second with a score of 101 and Swift Current’s Emily Bugera placed third at 102.
The boys’ championship required a one-hole playoffs to decide the champion. Eastend’s Kirk Humphrey topped Shaunavon’s Corey Bailey in the playoff after both has scored 64’s over the first 18 holes. Swift Current’s Austin Paulhus placed third, seven shots back of the leaders, with a 71.
The Swift Current Comp. Colts, comprised of Austin Paulhus, Taylor Kinch, Cole Bissonnette, and Clark Campbell, won the team competition with a score of 207. Second was Shaunavon with 218 and third was Eastend with a 236.
Ponteix was the only girls’ team in action, comprised of Jenessa Fournier, Ashley Fournier and Tamara Goffinet.
The top three individualsboys and girls golfers and both winning teams are now eligible to compete at the SHSAA provincials championships in Goodsoil on Sept 27-28.
