A large contingent of Southwest golfers were in Saskatoon last week for the 2013 MJT-CPGA of Saskatchewan Junior Championship at The Willows Golf and Country Club.
Swift Current’s Erykah Pool was tied for sixth after the first round with a 94, 15 shots off the pace of Prince Albert’s Kayla Sawchuk for the lead. Pool improved to a 93 on day two to place sixth in the Girls Division. Regina’s Brooke Hill shot a 77 on day two to move from third to first with a one-shot win over Prince Albert’s Brooke Hill.
Shaunavon’s Corey Bailey was only five shots off the Juvenile Boys lead after day one at The Willows. He finished five-over-par with a 76. Kipling’s Carson Harcourt and Prince Albert’s Zach Hurd led the tournament with even-par 71’s to open the event.
Bailey shot a 77 on day two to place seventh at 11-over to finish nine shots off the lead. Regina’s Noah Kozack fired a four-under 67 to come from nowhere to win the Juvenile Boys competition.
Five Swift Current golfers followed Bailey in the Juvenile Boys standings. Taylor Kinch shot an 80 on Thursday. He improved with a 78 on Friday to tie for 15th. Austin Paulhus also shot an 80 on day one. He dropped one stroke with a 79 on Friday to tie for 18th. Logan Tisdale opened his tournament with an 83 on Thursday and shot an 87 on Friday to tie for 25th.
Matt Reimer was in the mix with an 84 on day one. He shot an 88 on day two to place 28th. Cole Bissonnette carded a 94 on day one and trimmed seven strokes for an 87 on Friday to place 30th.
Eastend’s Kirk Humphrey tied for eighth in the Bantam Boys Division. He was just one shot off the lead with a four-over 75 on day one. Humphrey shot an 82 on Friday to finish seven shots back of Yorkton’s Kade Johnson, who earned a two-stroke win with rounds of 78 and 72.
Swift Current’s Kyle Tisdale sat nine shots off the pace after day one with a 12-over 83. He finished 16th with an 84 on Friday to finish 17 shots back of Johnson. Griffin Wilson shot an 88 on day one. He improved one stroke on Friday with an 87 to tie for 20th in Bantam Boys.
Swift Current’s Jordan Braun shot a 79 to sit 12 shots off the lead on day one in Juvenile Boys. He shot an 81 on Friday to place 19th. Bengough’s Tyrin Foley went four-under on day one with an opening round 67. He shot an even 71 on day two to earn a three-shot win over Madison’s Kyle Wiebe.
Swift Current’s Blake Morrow finished eight-over with a 79 on day one. He wound up 20th in Junior Boys with an 82 on day two. Swift Current’s Jessy-Lee Lacher shot a 98 on day one. He slashed 20 strokes on day two for a 78 to place 23rd in Saskatoon.
Next up on the MJT Saskatchewan calendar will be the MJT - Golf Saskatchewan Order of Merit Championship at Elk Ridge Resort in Waskesiu on August 24-25.
