A couple of area golfers captured top-20 finishes at the 102nd Amateur Men’s Championship at the Melfort Golf & Country Club.
Shaunavon’s Corey Bailey, representing the Rock Creek Golf Club, finished tied for 14th at eight-over-par at the four-round event. Bailey opened the tournament on Monday with a one-over 73. His worst round came on day two when he finished seven-over-par. The Shaunavon golfer bounced back Wednesday with a two-over 74. He came up with his best round on the final day with a two-under 70.
Swift Current’s Jehremy Ryde placed 20th in Melfort at 12-over. He had a steady performance beginning with a three-over 75 on day one. Ryde, golfing out of the Elmwood Golf and Country Club, carded a 76 on day two and then posted his lowest score on day three with a two-over 74. He finished off the tournament with a three-over 75.
Saskatoon’s David Stewart finished the tournament seven-under for a five-stroke victory over Shaun Dunphy. Stewart opened the tournament with a one-under 71, followed by a one-over 73 on day two. He opened a lead on day three with a five-under 67 and then wrapped up the championship with a two-under 70 on the final day.
Furdale’s Jordan Arndt posted the best round of the tournament when he fired a seven-under 65 on the final day to tie for sixth overall at one-over-par.
Melfort hosted the Amateur Men’s Championship from July 15-18.
