Denise Wilson held off a charging Tammy Bezaire from Warman to claim the Saskatchewan Senior Women's Championships by a five-shot margin at the Humboldt Golf Club.
Wilson, who represented the Elmwood Golf and Country Club, had enjoyed a five-shot lead after an opening round 80, and clung to a one-stroke clubhouse lead after two rounds 164. In the third and final round she fired an 84 to finish with a 32-over-par 248, five strokes ahead of Bezaire who placed as runner-up with a 253.
Last year, Wilson tied as runner-up, four shots off the pace of Moose Jaw’s Lorie Boyle, who captured her fifth senior provincial title in a seven year span.
Chinook Golf Club member Kathy Hopfner cracked the top 10 with a ninth place finish. She carded an opening round 87 and finished the three-day event with a 275.
Hopfner and Wilson utilized their combined scores to compete in the Women's Team Championship, where they enjoyed a fifth place finish in the team standings.
The Saskatchewan Amateur and Senior Women's Championships were hosted in Humboldt on July 2 to 4.
