Bailey leads locals at MJT Elmwood stop

Shaunavon’s Corey Bailey was the top local finisher at the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour stop in Swift Current on May 19-20. Bailey finished the two-round 2013 MJT Junior Worlds Qualifier / Golf Saskatchewan OOM Series at Elmwood Golf & Country Club 10-over (74-78) and five shots back of the leaders in the Juvenile Boys Division.

Calgary’s Conaire Kehoe and Regina’s Noah Kozak both shot five-over 147’s before Kehoe won in a playoff.

Swift Current’s Austin Paulhus (83-80) was 14th and Brody Knelson (83-81) was 15th in Juvenile Boys action.

Swift Current’s Taylor Kinch (80-89) and Matt Reimer (84-85) were the next closest locals tied for 18th spot. Swift Current’s Logan Tisdale Tied for 22nd (86-90), while local Cory Audette (90-94) was 26th, Cole Bissonnette (96-91) finished 27th, and Clark Campbell (94-95) placed 28th in Juvenile Boys.

Swift Current’s Emily Bugera finished sixth in the Girls Division. Bugera was the winner of the Girls Golf Town Comeback Award. Prince Albert’s Kayla Sawchuk easily won the Girls Division with rounds of 79 and 81 to win by 15 strokes.

Three Southwest golfers took part in the 21-golfer Bantam Boys Division. Eastend’s Kirklyn Humphrey was the top finisher, 12 shots back of the winner with rounds of 82 and 81 for a 21-over 163. Cochrane’s Scott Shugg fired rounds of 75 and 76 for a nine-over 151. Humphrey also won the Bantam Boys Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition.

Swift Current’s Kyle Tisdale placed 12th in Bantam Boys with rounds of 86 and 82 for a 168 total. Griffin Wilson was 16th with scores of 91 and 89 for a two-round total of 180.

Jessy-Lee Lacher was the top Swift Current golfer in Junior Boys. He shot rounds of 83 and 76 to finish 17 shots back of the winner, Moose Jaw’s Leighton Bearchell (66-76). Lacher also won the Junior Boys Sundogs Skills Competition.

Swift Current’s Jordan Braun tied for 19th with scores of 81 and 85 for a 166 total. Swift Current’s Blake Morrow shot a 91 on day one but rebounded with a 79 on Monday to place 23rd with a 170 total. Morrow, golfing out of the Sask Landing Golf Resort, also took home the Golf Town Comeback Award.

Next up on the MJT calendar is the MJT Bow Valley Credit Union Classic at Banff Springs Golf Club on May 25-26.

The next Saskatchewan stop for the MJT will be in Moose Jaw on June 15-16.
