Wilson ties for second at senior golf provincials

A pair of local golfers took part in the Saskatchewan Senior Women’s Championship last week at the Melfort Golf & Country Club.

Denise Wilson (North Miami, Florida), golfing out of the Elmwood Golf and Country Club, finished tied for second with a 26-over-par, three-day total of 242. She finished four shots back of Moose Jaw’s Lorie Boyle, who captured her fifth senior provincial title in the past seven years.

Wilson shot a 12-over 84 on day one and was tied for third spot. She fired a 76 on day two to head into the final day tied for top spot with Boyle and Jo-Anne Schiller.

She finished the tournament with an 82 on day three to fall into a second-place tie.

Swift Current’s Kathy Hopfner tied for eighth at 45-over with a three-round total of 261.

She was tied for 10th after day one with an 88 to open the tournament. Hopfner dropped to 13th in with an 89 on day two. She came up with her best score in the final round with an 84 to conclude the tournament.
