Shaunavon’s Corey Bailey qualified for the 2012 Canadian Junior Boys Championship after tying for fifth at the 2012 SGI CANADA Saskatchewan Junior Men’s Championship at The Legends in Warman.
Bailey fired rounds of 79, 77, and 84 to finish +24 and six shots back of the lead. Prince Albert’s Cory Selander held on for the win as he finished +18 to win the Junior Men’s Championship.
“I thought I played pretty good,” said Bailey. “The first day was a little rough going. I holed out on 18 for eagle to make 79. The second day was good, shot 77 and then the third day was about 50 km/h winds. I managed just to play punch shots all day and came out with an 84 and it was the second lowest score of the day.”
Selander, Justin Wood (Unity), and Leighton Bearchell (Moose Jaw) will now make up Team Saskatchewan at the 2012 Canadian Junior Boys Championship at the Osprey Ridge Golf Club in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia from July 31-August 3.
Bailey will be one of six other Saskatchewan golfers to fill the extra Saskatchewan quota spots at the Canadian Junior Boys Championship.
Swift Current’s Erykah Pool was the lone Southwest female in action. She placed sixth (105-107-113--325) at +109 over three days. Prince Albert’s Brooke Hobson won the championship (81-90-88--259) at +43.
