16 local golfers took part in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour Saskatchewan Season Opener in Swift Current on May 20-21. The two-day event at the Elmwood Golf Club hosted many of the top young golfers from Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba.
Swift Current’s Erykah Pool placed fourth in the Girls division with rounds of 102 and 97. Avery Wilson was fifth with rounds of 132 and 125 to round out the local female contingent. Winnipeg’s Jenna Roadley easily won the tournament with a two-over-par two-day total of 146.
Jessy-Lee Lacher represented the Southwest in the Boys 17-19 division and placed sixth with rounds of 82 and 79 on the par 71 course. Regina’s Daegan Wall won the event with a tournament low 68 on Monday for a two-over 144 over two days.
11 local golfers took part in the Boys 14-16 age group, led by Shaunavon’s Corey Bailey, who finished seventh with rounds of 78 and 76 to finish 12-over-par. The division was won by Prince Albert’s Zach Hurd in a playoff over Coronach’s Riley Grona after both finished 36 holes in 145 strokes.
Swift Current’s Logan Tisdale (87-75-162) was the next highest finisher in a tie for 15th place. Not far behind was Swift Current’s Austin Paulhus (81-83-163) in 17th. Next was Swift Current’s Taylor Kinch (90-76-166) in 19th, Cory Audette (88-80-166) in 20th, and Marcus Kouri (87-85-172) in 23rd.
Swift Current’s Matt Reimer and Blake Morrow both tied for 24th with identical rounds of 91 and 82. Leader’s Zane Ausmus (89-88-177) was 27th, followed by Swift Current’s Brody Knelson (90-96-186) in 28th and Clark Campbell (112-101-213) in 30th spot.
Swift Current’s Griffin Wilson was one of two local golfers in the Boys 13 & Under fields. He placed 11th with rounds of 97 and 101. Leader’s Brandt Ausmus was 12th with rounds of 109 and 101. Headingly, Manitoba’s Brendan Kerslake won the age group by eight strokes with rounds of 75 and 72 for a five-over-par 147.
The next MJT stop in Saskatchewan will be at Cooke Municipal Golf Course in Prince Albert on June 2-3.
