Rumancik 32nd at Amateur Provincials

Three Southwest golfers were in action at the Saskatchewan Amateur Men’s Championship at the Willows Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon from July 20-23.

Maple Creek’s Brennan Rumancik was the top local finisher as he tied for 32nd at 11-over-par. Rumancik’s best round was a one-under-par 71 on day three as he finished in 299 strokes (79-74-71-75) overall.

Swift Current’s Taylor Smith, golfing out of the Elmwood Golf and Country Club, finished in a tie for 37th at 13-over-par. Smith’s best round was a par 72 as he finished in 301 strokes (78-74-72-77).

Scott Thompson used a 10-under-par 62 on day three to propel him to the provincial title by two shots. The St. Walburg native finished 16-under-par (70-69-62-71=272) to edge Saskatoon’s Jesse Gibson.

Swift Current’s Mickey Wallace missed the cut at 24-over-par. He fired rounds of 81, 81, and 78 on the par 72 course for a three-round total of 240.

Next up on the provincial golfing calendar is the Senior Women's & Senior Men's Championships at Greenbryre Golf and Country Club in Saskatoon from July 27 to 29.
