Herbert's Kaitlyn Jahnke fired the top two rounds of the tournament to easily win the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour's Finora Classic at the Elmwood Golf Club on Sunday.

Swift Current's Ashley Sauder fired a pair of 110's for a total of 220 in fourth spot.

Lacey Duncan, also of Swift Current, finished in 236 strokes in fifth place in the female division.

Swift Current's Cody Schapansky was the top local finisher on the boys' side, placing third in the boys 14-16 division. Schapansky shot rounds of 77 and 76 to finish seven shots back of Regina's Aaron Vogel for top spot.

Maple Creek's Taras Burton tied for eighth with rounds of 80 and 85 for a 163 total.

Keegan Braaten placed 10th with rounds of 80 and 85, followed by fellow Swift Current golfer Tyson Empey in 12th with rounds of 88 and 79.

Swift Current's Jessy-Lee Lacher was 17th in 175 strokes, while Swift Current's Kelton Braun was 22nd with a 209.

In the boy's 13 and under division, Swift Current's Logan Tisdale placed fourth in 172 strokes. Shaunavon's Corey Bailey was fifth in 181 strokes, while Swift Current's Taylor Kinch placed seventh in 202 strokes. Medicine Hat's Nolan Mastel topped the field in 160 strokes.

Moose Jaw's Nathan Corrin, who golfs out of the Elmwood Golf Club, placed second with rounds of 82 and 79, only one shot back of Mastel.

Prince Albert's Danny Klughart topped the boys 17-19 division with rounds of 69 and 70 for a 139 total. Regina's Braeden Mueller was second with a two-round total of 142.

“I was very happy with the tournament and the competition here at Elmwood this weekend,” said Elmwood head professional, Jeff Chambers. “I was excited to see how many players from all over made the trip to compete.  We had players from Medicine Hat, Saskatoon, Regina, Coronach, Whitewood, as well as Yorkton.  48 teed it up and Danny Klughart played solid with a three under finish for the two days.”

“It was great to finally have two days of sunshine as the weather has not co-operated with golf courses so far this season,” he continued. “The players loved the course and consider it one of their favorite stops each year because of the layout and variety of shots to be had, and they loved how well the greens came through this year.  The top finishers commented that it was great to be able to be aggressive on the approach shots because you could control the spin and they putted true.”

Jahnke also won her division’s Mr. Lube Long Drive Competition; the other winners were Nathan Corrin, Taylor Cook, 16, of North Battleford, and Braeden Mueller. The Sundog Skills competition divisional winners were Nolan Mastel, Jessy-Lee Lacher, 15, of Swift Current, Jordan Johns, 19, of Fort Qu’Appelle and Lacey Duncan, 15, of Swift Current.

The next stop on the four-tournament MJT Saskatchewan series is on June 29th and 30th at the site of the provincial championships this summer – Cooke Golf Club in Prince Albert – and is a qualifier for the Srixon International Junior Classic in Australia.
