The Swift Current Colts are hoping that week three in the Moose Jaw High School Football League will bring more positive results than Friday’s season opener did. The Colts faced a veteran Moose Jaw Vanier Vikings squad and came out on the wrong end of a 46-1 final score at Colts Field on Friday.

“We knew that it was going to be a tough test. They're a very good football team with veterans all over the field,” conceded Colts coach Derek Murdoch. “Although the score sounds terrible, I'm proud of our guys for hanging in with the best team in our league. Most of our guys were starting their first high school football game, so we know that as we go on this season, they'll get more and more comfortable with their roles on the field.”

The Colts will be right back in action this Saturday when they travel to Moose Jaw to face the AE Peacock Tornadoes at 3:15 p.m. at Guthridge Field.

"We will need to do a better job of protecting our QB this week, as Josh (Siemens) was under pressure the whole game. We can do this by getting a running game going, which we weren't able to do this week,” explained Murdoch.

The Tornadoes were shutout 22-0 by the Vikings to open the season, but responded with an 8-6 win over Estevan last week.

“I think on the defensive side we just need to flow to the ball and make tackles. I'm confident that we'll improve on both sides of the ball. We'll be in a battle with Peacock this week and we want to prove that we can compete,” said Murdoch.
