The Swift Current rink of Max Kirkpatrick lost their opening game at the 2014 SaskTel Tankard Provincial Men's Curling Championship in Shaunavon Wednesday afternoon.

Kirkpatrick fell behind 5-0 and never fully recovered in an 8-4 loss to Saskatoon Nutana's Bruce Korte.

Korte stole one in the second end and then four in the third end for a 5-0 lead that he would never relinquish. Kirkpatrick got within two points in the seventh end to trail 6-4 but Korte finished out the game with singles in the eighth and ninth ends to defeat Kirkpatrick in the opening draw of the 16-team triple elimination tournament.

The Swift Current foursome, consisting of Kirkpatrick, third Shaun Meachem, second Jeff Chambers, and lead Shawn Hiebert, will open the B Event on Thursday at 3 p.m. against Saskatoon's Kevin Marsh.

Thursday will include Draw 3 at 8:30 a.m., a luncheon at 12 p.m., Draw 4 at 3 p.m. and Draw 5 at 7 p.m. at the Crescent Point Wickenheiser Centre in Shaunavon.
