Meachem into playoffs at Mixed Curling Nationals

The Swift Current rink of lead Kelsey Dutton, second Carl deConnick Smith, third Kelly Wood and skip Shaun Meachem are competing in the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship hosted at Ottawa's Rideau Curling Club from Nov. 14 to 23.

Swift Current's Shaun Meachem rink cliched a spot in the semi-final at the 2014 Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in Ottawa Friday.

The Saskatchewan rink - Meachem, third Kelly Wood, second Carl deConinck Smith and lead Kelsey Dutton - downed Northern Ontario's Charlie Robert 9-4 on Friday morning to place second in the 12-team round robin with a 9-2 record. The two teams were tied 2-2 after four ends until Meachem scored two in the fifth and then stole one in the sixth and deuces in the seventh and eighth ends.

New Brunswick's Sylvie Robichaud and defending champion Cory Heggestad of Ontario tied for third with 8-3 records and will play Friday afternoon for a spot in the semi-final with Meachem on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

The semi-final winner will move on to face Alberta's Darren Moulding (9-2) in the championship game Saturday afternoon.
