Meachem wins Sask. mixed curling championship opener

The Shaun Meachem rink from Swift Current collected multiple point ends every time they scored while earning an 11-4 win over the Jade Telke rink from Kyle at the Tim Hortons Provincial Mixed Curling Championship in Eston.

During the opening draw showdown between the two Southwest entries in the 16-team provincial championship, the Meachem rink scored two-point ends in the first, second, fourth and fifth ends, and they ended the game early with a three-ender in the seventh. Meachem is supported by third Kelly Wood, second Carl deConnick Smith, and lead Kelsey Dutton. The Meachem rink will face the Darren Engel foursome from Pense in an 8:30 a.m. draw on Thursday.

Telke counted a single in the third and posted three in the sixth to collect their points. The Telke rink faces the Leo Perrin skipped team from Shellbrook in a 3:30 p.m. draw on Thursday.

Telke throws third stones, Reagan Hadden throws skip rocks, with Joel Denning at second and Drew Hamilton at lead.
