A pair of Southwest rinks will be battling with the best of the province at the 2013-2014 Tim Hortons Mixed Provincial Curling Championship at the Eston Curling Club from March 20 to 24.

The Shaun Meachem rink from Swift Current and the Jade Telke rink from Kyle are in the field of 16-rinks battling in the four-day championship.

Ironically, only one local rink will remain on the A side of the pool after 2 p.m. draw action today, as Meachem and Telke clash in the first round of play.

Meachem's rinks boast Shawn Meachem at skip, Kelly Wood at third, Carl deConnick Smith at second, and Kelsey Dutton throws lead rocks. Meachem placed as provincial runner-up at the 2012-2013 championship in Watrous after dropping a 12-4 decision to Jeff Hartung in the final. However, Meachem is the only remaining player from last year's entry.

The Telke rink has Jade Telke throwing third rocks, Reagan Hadden throwing skip stones, with Joel Denning at second and Drew Hamilton as lead.

Defending Provincial Mixed Champion Hartung will be in Eston along with a field which boasts names such as Jamie Schneider, Mitch Heidt, and Brad Heidt.
