Koster drops opener to Schick

The Ken Koster rink from the Swift Current Curling Club opened with a loss at the 2013 Affinity Credit Union Senior Men's Southern Playdowns in Moosomin.

Koster faced Al Schick from Regina's Callie Curling Club to open the tournament on Thursday evening and suffered an 8-3 loss. Koster opened the game with a single in the first end before Schick responded with two in the second. Koster quickly tied it 2-2 in the third end but Schick took the lead with two in the fourth and a steal of two in the fifth on his way to the win in eight ends.

Koster and the rink of third Dan Kennedy, second Mitch Minken and lead Rod Quintin are one of the 16-rinks at the triple-knockout bonspiel to determine the four Southern teams advancing to the Affinity CU Senior Men's Provincial Championship in Assiniboia on Feb. 20 to 24.

Koster will face Lumsden’s Rick Day to open the B Event on Friday at 1 p.m.
