Swift Current’s Max Kirkpatrick got into the win column at the 2013 SaskTel Men’s Tankard in Melfort Thursday.
Kirkpatrick recovered from his tournament opening loss to upset Darrell McKee 6-2 in his first B Event game. Kirkpatrick scored in each of the first three ends to lead 4-0 and then added singles in the sixth and the ninth to finish off the victory over the two-time provincial champion.
He now advances to face another two-time provincial champion, Steve Laycock on Friday morning.
Kirkpatrick had suffered an 11-8 loss to Regina’s Jamie Schneider on day one of the triple knockout event.
Kirkpatrick trailed 7-3 after five ends but fought back to tie the match with two in the sixth, a steal of one in the seventh, and two in the ninth. Schneider scored three in the final end to claim the win and drop Kirkpatrick to the B Event.
