All three Southwest rinks at the SaskTel Southern Men's Playdowns are in must win situations after being bumped into the C event at the 16-team playdown in Estevan.

Swift Current's Clayton Wicks came out on the losing end of an 8-7 extra end decision to Regina's Mike Eberle in Friday evening draw action. Wicks had rebounded from a 2-0 first end deficit with a pair in the second and a steal of two in the third to open a 4-2 lead. Eberle regained a 5-4 lead with a single in the fourth and a pair in the fifth. The rinks traded singles over the next five ends, with Wicks forcing the extra end by scoring a single in the tenth with the hammer.

Wicks had advanced into the B event quarter final with an exciting 7-6 extra end win over Regina's Clint Krismer. Wicks was cruising along with a 5-1 lead after five ends before Krismer rebounded with singles in the sixth, seventh and eight ends. Wicks opened a 6-4 lead with a single in the ninth, but Krismer forced the extra end with a pair in the 10th end.

Wicks will be back on the ice at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday versus the winner of a morning game between Jason Weal and Wade Sydorko.

Reagan Hadden's Swift Current rink had a tough end to Friday, dropping a 7-4 decision to Langenburg's Jeff Hartung. While Hadden was held to singles in the first, third, fifth and seventh ends, Hartung counted multiple-point ends thanks to scoring a pair in the second and fourth ends and a three-point end in the sixth.

Hadden scored an unlikely win in his B event opening contest, falling behind 7-2 after five ends but posting points in the final five ends to collect an 8-7 win over Wade Sydorko from Weyburn. After scoring a single with the hammer in the sixth to pull within 7-3, Hadden stole one in the seventh, a pair in the eighth, and singles in both the ninth and 10th end to steal the victory.

Hadden will also be playing at 4:30 p.m., taking on the winner of a morning Shaylor Layman versus Clint Krismer contest.

Shaylor Layman from Lafleche dropped his 3 p.m. Friday draw 9-2 to Jason Krupski from Whitewood. Krupski scored three enders in the first and fourth ends before the teams shook hands after six ends.

Layman will attempt to extend his stay at Southerns during an 8:30 a.m. draw There are four draws scheduled for today in the triple-knockout event which will qualify four Southern rinks for the SaskTel Provincial Men's Championship in Melfort on Jan. 30 to Feb. 3.
