The Cabri Cougars won five straight games to win the provincial title at the SHSAA Mixed Curling Provincial Championships in Abbey.
Cabri was the host team in Abbey and were represented by skip Russell Green, third Tayler Stenerson, second Klarke Braaten, lead Mariah Jacklin, and coach Ron Brawn.
They breezed through the A Event with three straight wins to reach the Championship Event first.
They defeated Saskatoon Tommy Douglas 7-5, Canwood 9-4, and Unity 8-1.
Saturday afternoon, Cabri got off to a quick start and never looked back in a 5-3 win over Unity in the semi-final. Cabri scored two in the first and stole another in the second for a lead that they refused to relinquish.
Cabri faced Kelliher in the championship final and the two teams were tied 2-2 after five ends. Cabri stole two in the sixth to earn some breathing room, but Kelliher scored one in the seventh to make it a one-point game heading into the final end. Cabri scored a pair in the eighth for a 6-3 final to win gold on home ice.
“We have been working for that for a very long time,” said skip Russell Green. “When we heard that provincials were going to be in Abbey that was more motivation because we really wanted to do the best we could at home. Winning at home was an incredible feeling.”
