Max Kirkpatrick and the men prevailed over Kelly Wood and the women in the Battle of the Brooms skins match at the Swift Current Curling Club on Friday.

The fundraising exhibition match went down to the final stone before Wood was unable to execute a nearly impossible double raise takeout as the two teams traded clutch shot after clutch shot throughout an impressive curling display.

Kirkpatrick teamed with Shawn Meachem, Chris Haichert, and Mitch Minken as he avenged an earlier loss to Wood in the Innovation Credit Union Super League.

Wood was joined by Teejay Haichert, Kathy Hopfner, Connie Rayner, and Sally Wiens as they stuck with the men shot for shot in front of an impressive crowd watching from above at the Credit Union iplex.

Kirkpatrick won skins in the third and fifth ends, while Wood earned a skin in the fourth end to stay within striking distance. The sixth and seventh ends were both carried over, leaving the game on the line in the eighth and final end with 65 points up for grabs.

“It came right down to the last rock so it could have been anybody’s game right till the end,” said Kirpatrick. “They did, they made a tonne of shots. Kelly made a lot of good shots and kept it close right until the end.”
