Former Swift Current Broncos defenseman Ian White was traded Sunday from the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Calgary Flames in a seven-player blockbuster involving defenseman Dion Paneuf.

White, along with forwards Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman, and Jamal Mayers head to the Flames, while Phaneuf, forward Fredrik Sjostrom, and prospect Keith Aulie head to the Maple Leafs.

White, 25, has nine goals and 17 assists in 56 games with the Leafs this season and was a plus one.

He was drafted in the sixth round, 191st overall, in the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

White has played five seasons with the Leafs compiling 105 points in 296 games with 190 penalty minutes and a career plus eight rating.

White skated in 246 games during four seasons with the Broncos from 2000-2004 and registered 222 points including a 32-goal season in 2001-02.

swbooster.com readers recently voted White the top Broncos player of the past decade with 27 per cent of the vote, beating out current Broncos sniper Cody Eakin with 22 per cent and former captain Luke Hunter with 20 per cent.
