Two rookies from the Swift Current Broncos 2008 draft class have been selected to skate in the upcoming World Under 17 Challenge.
Defensive standout Reece Scarlett and power forward Adam Lowry were named to Team Pacific for the Under 17 Challenge in Ontario on Dec. 28 to Jan. 4.
The two Alberta-born rookies join 22 other top 16-year-old prospects for this tournament. Team Pacific features the top prospects from Alberta and British Columbia.
Scarlett has been earning lots of ice time as a top four defenceman, collecting a goal and five points along with a solid plus four plus/minus rating whill appearing in all 25 games this season. The Sherwood Park player was the Broncos first roudn bantam draft pick in 2008 (13th overall).
Lowry has six goals and six assists for 12 points along with a plus four plus/minus rating over his first 23 WHL games. The Calgary native was the Broncos fourth round pick (78th overall) in 2008.
Broncos athletic trainer Jamie LeBlanc will be attending the tournament as the equipment manager for Team West, which boasts the top 16-year-old players from Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The 10-team challenge features five regional teams from Canada (Team Pacific, Team West, Team Ontario, Team Quebec and Team Atlantic) clashing with the national under-16 teams from Finland, USA, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Russia.
