Mavericks win second straight game for 2-1 lead in WMBL championship series

The Swift Current Indians find themselves on the brink of elimination in their Western Major Baseball League championship series after losing 8-3 in Medicine Hat Friday.

The game was scoreless for four inning before the host Mavericks scored one run in the fifth inning and then blew things open with six runs in the seventh. The Indians scored three runs in the ninth inning but it was too little too late.

Mavericks' starter Jon Rand limited the Indians to five hits, three walks, and three runs over 8.2 innings to help his team to a 2-1 series lead.

Indians' starter Steve Thompson took the loss after allowing seven hits, three walks, and five runs over six innings.

Josh Johnson, Matt Spillman, and Eric Sams scored runs for the Tribe. Liam Goodall finished three-for-four with a run batted in to lead the offense.

Game four will be Saturday in Medicine Hat. Game five, if necessary, would be played Sunday at 7:05 p.m. in Swift Current.
