Host Beavers knock out 17 hits to fend off playoff elimination
Swift Current Indians
The Swift Current Indians missed their first opportunity to advance in the Western Major Baseball League playoffs when they lost 10-2 to the Weyburn Beavers Sunday.
The Tribe had led the best-of-five series 2-0 after two wins at home and will now try and prevent a fifth and deciding game when they play game four in Weyburn Monday.
Swift Current held a brief lead in fourth inning when they scored twice to lead 4-1 but Weyburn knocked out 17 hits and scored four runs in the fifth inning, one in the sixth, and two runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game out of reach.
Fernando Pena took the loss, allowing 10 hits and six earned runs over 5.2 innings. Eros Modena was a lone bright spot for the Tribe as he singled, stole two bases, and scored a run in the loss.
Ryan Johnson handed the Tribe their first loss in eight games as he limited them to two hits, two walks, and two unearned runs while striking out nine in the complete game.
