Johnson breaks league stolen base mark with seven steals in final two games

The Swift Current Indians will enter the Western Major Baseball League playoffs on a five-game winning streak after doubling up on the Moose Miller Express 10-5 Wednesday.
The game, meaningless in the standings, was highlighted by outfielder Josh Johnson stealing his 37th and 38th bases of the season to set the league record. The outfielder from Tampa, Florida also led the league in runs scored and finished third with a .379 average.
Eric Sams also had a big game with two home runs, four runs batted in and three runs scored.
Mike Frericks picked up the win with four scoreless relief innings, allowing only two hits and two walks while striking out three. Locals Justin Kehler and Reilley Grose both pitched scoreless innings as well.
The Indians finished the season with a 28-18 record to win the Central Division and had the third best winning percentage (.609) in the 11-team league.
They will now face the Weyburn Beavers (20-26) in the opening round of the playoffs. The best-of-five series opens Friday and Saturday in Swift Current at 7:05 p.m. at Mitchell Field each night. The two teams split the four-game season series with both teams winning once at home and once on the road.
