Tribe outplayed by rival Dawgs

The Swift Current Indians were simply outplayed by the rival Okotoks Dawgs Thursday as their losing streak reached five games in a 5-2 loss.

The host Indians made three errors and the Dawgs capitalized on them for two runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth for a 5-0 lead after opening the game with a run in the first inning.

Swift Current scored their only runs on a Justin Lee two-run home run in the fifth inning to score Taylor Steen.

The Indians did have nine hits and a couple of walks but had two runners thrown out at second base on stolen base attempts and one gunned down at home plate while attempting to score on a single from second base.

Conor Lillis-White earned the win for Okotoks as he allowed six hits, two walks, and two runs, one unearned, over seven innings.

Peter Irvin took the loss after his defense let him down during his 3.2 innings. He allowed eight hits, one walk, five runs, three that were earned, while striking out three.

Connor Harris, Chad Kim, Robbie DeVries, and Darren Kolk all made scoreless relief appearances for the Tribe.

The Indians dropped to 23-18 in the loss and saw their Central Division lead shrink to 1.5 games over Moose Jaw. Okotoks improved to 20-21 and remain third in the West Division.

The Tribe will take Friday to regroup before hosting the Melville Millionaires on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Mitchell Field with five games remaining in the regular season.
