Indians' winning streak ends in Okotoks
The Swift Current Indians' five-game winning streak came to an end Sunday when they squandered a four-run eighth-inning lead to the Okotoks Dawgs.
The host Dawgs scored three runs in the eighth inning and two in the ninth for a walk-off 7-6 win in front of 3,789 fans at Seaman Stadium.
Zach Manley suffered the loss after he allowed five hits, two walks, and five runs, three that were earned, over the final 1.2 innings. Fernando Pena made the start and allowed five hits, four walks, and two runs over five innings. Paul Hvozdovic also tossed two scoreless innings in relief while striking out three in his season debut.
The Indians knocked out nine hits, led by shortstop Hunter Owen with two hits and two runs scored for a .500 average through his first six games. Eros Modena also had two hits and scored a run. Leadoff man Josh Johnson got on base with a single and a walk and had two runs batted in.
The Indians dropped to 5-5 and trail the Moose Jaw Miller Express (6-3) by 1.5 games for top spot in the Central Division. Okotoks improved to 3-9 and remain last in the WMBL.
The Tribe will now be off until Wednesday when they visit the Weyburn Beavers (4-5).
