Swift Current Indians
The Swift Current Indians kept their season alive with a 4-1 road win Friday to even their best-of-five Western Major Baseball League semi-final series against the Melville Millionaires.
The win forced a fifth and deciding game in Swift Current on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
Melville took an early lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning but Swift Current tied it up in the fifth when Matt Spillman singled in Alex Schultz in the fifth.
The Indians broke things open with three runs in the eighth inning. Jake Gonzalez singled in Danny Clifford to give the Tribe their first lead of the game. Mario Sanchez scored one batter later when he came in from third as Gonzalez was thrown out trying to steal second. Taylor Steen would then hit a ground rule double and come around to score on an RBI triple from Schultz.
Chris Haddeland won the pitching duel between WMBL First Team All-Stars. He allowed only two walks, five hits, and one run over eight complete innings. Cody Chartrand came in and closed things out with a scoreless ninth inning.
Homero Ortiz took the loss with eight hits and three earned runs allowed over 7 1/3 innings while walking three and striking out six.
