Swift Current Indians
The Swift Current Indians’ season will be on the line tonight in Melville. The Indians currently trail the best-of-five playoff series 2-1 heading into game four after a 3-2 walk-off loss Thursday.
Swift Current managed only three hits in the game but scored one run in the second inning and another in the top of the ninth to tie the game 2-2. They took a 1-0 lead on a Mario Sanchez sacrifice fly to score Matt Henriksen in the second inning. Melville scored two in the bottom of the inning to take a one-run lead that held up until the ninth. Taylor Steen singled in the tying win when he brought home Chad Schultz, who had come on to run for Will Thorp.
Melville ended the game with one out in the bottom of the ninth when Ben Villafuerta singled in Tyler Enns.
Michael Noteware suffered the loss as he allowed 12 hits, two walks, and three runs over 8 1/3 innings while striking out 12.
Jaime Paxton held the Indians at bay with eight innings of two-hit ball, allowing five walks and one run while striking out six.
Game four will be played Friday in Melville, while game five, if necessary, will be Saturday back at Mitchell Field in Swift Current.
