Swift Current Indians

The Swift Current Indians let a valuable win slip through their fingertips Saturday in Melville. The Tribe led by three runs heading into the bottom of the ninth but allowed four runs in a 5-4 loss.

Closer Jake Gonzalez suffered the loss as he allowed all four runs in his second inning of work. Gonzalez allowed two singles, walked two, and hit a batter during the pivotal ninth inning.

The loss wasted an outstanding outing from Sean Callegari, who allowed just six hits and one run over seven innings while striking out nine without walking a batter.

Gonzalez and Matt Spillman both tripled, doubled, and scored in the loss. Danny Clifford singled and scored twice as well.

Swift Current dropped to 28-15, while the Millionaires improved to 28-16 as the two teams continue to battle for the top seed in the East.

The two teams continue their playoff seeding battle Sunday against one another for a second straight day. The Indians will also be at home Monday against Weyburn and on the road to visit Medicine Hat Tuesday to close out the regular season.
