Swift Current Indians
The Swift Current Indians scored 11 consecutive runs to get back into the win column Thursday. The Indians won their eighth game in nine outings in an 11-2 victory over the host Weyburn Beavers.
The Indians trailed 1-0 after one inning before scoring six runs in the fourth, two in the sixth and three runs in the seventh inning to improve to 12-7 on the road this season.
Right-fielder Alex Schultz doubled twice and brought home five runs to lead the offense. Catcher Taylor Steen got on base with two singles and was hit by a pitch as he came around to score three runs.
Anthony Armanino allowed six hits and one unearned run while striking out seven over five innings to earn the win. Fernando Pena had a strong relief effort, allowing four hits and one run over three innings while walking one and striking out five.
The win improved the Indians to 27-14. They will be in Regina to face the Red Sox on Friday. The Indians have already clinched an eighth straight Central Division pennant, but are still battling Melville (27-16) for the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. The Indians will face either Regina or Weyburn in the opening round of the playoffs next week.
