Swift Current Indians

The Swift Current Indians have returned to their winning ways with a four-game winning streak, capped by a 9-2 win at home on Thursday over the Yorkton Cardinals.

Jake Gonzalez slugged two homeruns and Fernando Pena went six innings to pick up the win as the Indians improved to 14-6 at Mitchell Field this season.

Gonzalez hit his ninth and 10th homeruns of the season to take over the lead in the Western Major Baseball League this season. He hit two-run homeruns in the first and fifth innings to provide all the offense the Indians would need.

Pena made his second start since joining the Indians and allowed just six hits and two runs over six innings while striking out five and walking only one.

Garrett Taggart, Justin Kehler, and Will Holbrook all made scoreless relief appearances to preserve the win.

Matt Spillman, Bryant Munoz, and Dawson Porter also had two-hit outings at the plate.

The win improved the Indians to 23-13 this season and stretched their lead in the Central Division to six games over the Moose Jaw Miller Express as they chase down an eighth straight division pennant.

The Indians will be in Okotoks for games on Friday and Saturday against the Dawgs. They will be back at home Sunday against Yorkton.
